The Career Experience Practicum: Fostering the Next Generation of Business Professionals through Multinational Student Collaboration and Project-Based Learning (2024 Fall Semester)

At Tokyo International University, we offer the “Career Experience Practicum” program each semester, allowing students to experience global collaboration using English as a common language. This program aims to cultivate the next generation of business professionals by partnering with global companies from various industries. In the program, multinational student teams work together to develop proposals for new business solutions that address social issues, while receiving guidance from company representatives.

This semester (Fall 2024), we were pleased to collaborate with NEC Corporation, one of Japan’s leading IT companies. NEC has recently focused on advancing world-class biometric authentication and generative AI technologies. Participating students also utilized these cutting-edge technologies to present innovative ideas aimed at solving societal challenges.

For example, some of the student groups proposed the development of an AI-powered dashcam to help prevent car accidents, while others proposed a system that integrates biometric authentication and generative AI to make medical services more accessible to the growing number of foreign residents in Japan, overcoming language barriers. These presentations offered students a valuable opportunity to create new value by drawing from their personal experiences and diverse perspectives.

Following each group¡¯s presentation, NEC’s multinational employees and students exchanged ideas on various topics, such as job hunting strategies in Japan, future goal-setting, and NEC¡¯s corporate vision, fostering mutual understanding.

Our university is committed to nurturing students who can identify challenges on their own and develop practical solutions. Through programs like this, we aim to equip students with the skills needed to become immediately effective professionals. We will continue to support students¡¯ growth by collaborating with diverse companies.
